International Day of People with Disabilities 2019

Hey there, beauties! Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.  A day to unify around ensuring a better, more equitable world. An annual celebration promoted by the United Nations since 1992, the day is dedicated to helping spread awareness and understanding of disability issues, while championing the extraordinary achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities across the globe.

Since 1992, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been annually observed on December 3rd around the world. The theme for this 2019 IDPD is promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership, The theme focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development as envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which pledges to leave no one behind and create a future that is more inclusive and diverse.

Currently, around 1 billion people live with a disability, making up around 15 percent of the world's total population. Yes, we have come a long way as a society since the first International Day of Persons with Disabilities 27 years ago; from expanding educational and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, to enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act, to increasing accessibility to innovation and technology. However, we still have more work to do in combating discrimination and removing the barriers that remain.

International Day of People with Disabilities is a special day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of those who live and work with disabilities. We must increase public awareness, understanding, and acceptance. As a company, we know that working towards an accessible future is everyone’s responsibility. We ask you today and every day to join us as we do our part to create a more inclusive society, which demands that people are not excluded because of their health issues or impairments.

 THE FUTURE IS ACCESSIBLE!
