International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Hey there beauties! We hope you all enjoyed the first weekend of December. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and we're most definitely getting in the festive spirit. But before we dive fully into holiday mode, we want to talk to you about a very important day for all individuals who live with disabilities, not just in the United States, but worldwide.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.

This very important day was observed on Sunday, December 3rd all over the world. This very special and one of a kind resolution, aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development; and increases awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The overall theme of this year being, “Transformation towards a sustainable and resilient society for all.”  The UN hopes to spread this as a message of inspiration and inclusion to everyone, in communities both big and small, all around the world. All of us here at Slick Chicks believe that it is imperative to include ALL people and shine a light on ALL abilities, on a daily basis.

Evidence and experience shows that when barriers to their inclusion are removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in societal life, their entire community benefits.

We are super proud to be a business that stands at the forefront of this movement. In recognition of this important day, we want to dedicate this blog post to all the advocates, activists, and ambassadors around the world. We celebrate your courage, dedication and life changing impacts. We know that with individuals like yourselves, we will soon see a world that is fully inclusive. We are so proud to support and empower all people of all abilities.

Ellen DeGeneres once said, “ To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are.” We couldn’t agree more. We also believe that the first step to inclusion is acceptance.
