Hey there beauties and happy September! The entire team at Slick Chicks is excited for what’s in store this month and we hope you are too. It means that all things pumpkin spice is back and cooler weather is just around the corner. It also means that we have the pleasure of introducing you to a phenomenal woman, who makes her wheelchair and disability look damn good! We are proud to have Lolo, aka “Sitting Pretty”, as a Slick Chicks Brand Ambassador.
Lolo is a force to be reckoned with and truly rocks her beauty and self-confidence, while rolling in a chair like no other! This wonder of a woman is fast becoming a sensation on YouTube as the face of her channel and brand “Sitting Pretty”, which now has over 7,000 Subscribers! Lolo “keeps it all the way 100”, sharing everything from what motivates her to her dating life, and so much more! She proudly shows a different side of disability, proving that life can be fun, fly, and yes even sexy!
Lolo has also been featured on BuzzFeed and many other popular websites over the past few years; so to say that she is “making her mark” as a disability influencer, is quite the understatement. And we had the pleasure of interviewing this fierce girlboss! That being said, let’s get to know Lolo!
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
I’m Lolo. I’m a disability lifestyle influencer and vlogger with my own YouTube channel titled Sitting Pretty. I document my life as a woman in a wheelchair to promote inclusion, dispel stereotypes, and educate society on how a disabled person’s life can be fun, fly and sexy.
How and where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from everywhere. Whether it’s something happening in the news or something happening within my own life; whatever I see or experience that I think needs to be shared, I will create content around those topics.
What does empowerment mean to you?
Empowerment means to be fearless. To know that you are unstoppable and nothing is in your way, from being the most confident version of you.
When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?
Just a few weeks ago. A lot was happening all at once, career, job, personal life, health, and I was feeling completely overwhelmed. I had to just take a moment to pray and relax, evaluate everything that was happening, and only focus on what I was able to remedy in that very moment. We get flustered by all of the things that hasn’t happened yet or the things that has happened the we can’t change, that we forget to focus our energy/efforts on what’s right in front of us that we can fix to make things better for later.
What is one piece of advice that you would give a young woman to navigate today's ever-changing world?
You are uniquely made so be proud of that. Don’t compare your looks or life to others on social media because what is for them is for them, you only need to focus on yourself to create your own beautiful life story that was designed just for you to experience.
