International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 3rd marked the UN’s International Day of Persons With Disabilities, a day on which the UN hopes to inspire a “transformation towards a sustainable and resilient society for all”. We should be working towards a world where everyone is included and no one gets left behind. So we want to recognize disability advocates and activists around the world. We celebrate your courage, dedication and life changing impacts. We are with you every day and we stand/sit with you with pride.

FUNDERDOME FUN!

FUNDERDOME FUN!

Hey there beauties, hope everyone had a blast over the holiday weekend! I know I did, but now it’s back to reality; or is it? Let’s talk a bit about dreams, more specifically dreams that eventually become reality. Hard work, determination, and perseverance are just a few key elements needed in order to cultivate our dreams and watch them grow into a beautiful reality.

I know if you are anything like me ladies, you have dreams, we all do! Some are small and take hardly any time at all to achieve, others are grander! I mean earth shaking, life changing dreams! The type of dreams that with enough cultivation, they can carry you from that special memory you have as a young girl, you know the one where you are sitting at the kitchen table with your mother chatting about all that the future holds (mine usually included some type of yummy dessert), to a dynamic lady who now is making big things happen not only as a CEO, aka “boss babe”, but for women everywhere, every day. Helya has worked tirelessly to achieve her dream of creating something she could bring to the masses. She’s truly driven to carry out the mission of Slick Chicks and to one day soon make this amazing brand, with a message of EMPOWERMENT and SELF ACCEPTANCE, a household name.

Meet Our New Chief Content Chick!

Hello! My name is Shannon. I’m the the proud mother of two smart, beautiful, and free-spirited girls, Macey Elizabeth and Taler Faith "aka" Sissy. They are the most rad little chicks a mom could ever ask for, really!

Other than being a mom, I’m a wife, advocate for persons with disabilities, and I proudly hold the title of Ms. Wheelchair Florida 2010 and carry this experience with me today. I have Cerebral Palsy and have been in a wheelchair most of my life. I take pride in the fact that my disability has never defined me. I worked hard to “break the mold” of what society thinks a disabled person should look like and/or be intellectually comparable to. It is with an “all go, no quit” attitude that I approach life.
