A Beauty Bringing the Heat!

A Beauty Bringing the Heat!

We hope you all have had an outstanding October! Before we bring this spooky month to a close, we wanted to introduce you to yet another fierce female we have welcomed into the Slick Chicks family with open arms. Kimberly Ocampo lives her life to the fullest; showing others that despite her injury, she can still “bring the heat!" This New Jersey born powerhouse has a true passion for music and dance; so much so that she was featured in a music video with music sensation Pitbull!

Two years ago tragedy struck and Kimberly was hit by a car, leaving her paralyzed. Since dealing with her paralysis, she has done nothing but choose to become better each day; mentally, physically, and spiritually. She has certainly had some obstacles to overcome, but Kimberly goes through life with a smile that lights up any room she rolls into!

Her fighting spirit and heart of gold can be seen and felt by everyone she meets. Kimberly constantly works to inspire others, using her story as motivation to prove that life is truly wonderful and full of endless possibilities. She was even made an honorary Miami Heat dancer! How totally cool is that?! Kimberly is also an aspiring model who says that “ability comes from the inside out!”

We had the incredible honor of chatting with this bombshell! So check out our interview as we get candid with our newest Slick Chicks Ambassador!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do?

I 'm a Colombian girl born and raised in New Jersey. My passion is music and dance. I used to teach, compete, and perform salsa. I'm a very outgoing and social woman with a beautiful family of two younger sisters and my parents. I'm very adventurous and love overcoming obstacles. I've been experiencing my spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and stroke for two years now. It has given me the opportunity to look at life with multiple perspectives. I’m becoming better each day while spreading my love to others as I grow in this journey. I am a visionary who is powerful, vulnerable, and loving! I love to workout, write, and read every day!

How and where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere! First, it all started in the hospital after my injury. I saw others in worse cases than mine and that showed me that giving up is not an option. I love listening to motivational audios like Darren Hardy, Tony Robbins, and Grant Cardone. They always get me going!

What does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment is powerful and beautiful!  It means to give, to share, and to spread love to others in your own way; to see people lift up and rise with a smile! Empowering others becomes this ripple effect that empowers so many lives!

When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

Discouragement happens time to time just like everything else in life. It's part of growing. I couldn't really pinpoint one at this moment, but what I can say is never compare yourself to others. You are the only you! Journaling is my main go to. I write out my thoughts, feelings, and problems and then find solutions to shift my mindset from sad or upset to happy and driven. Also, if I want to cry, I cry. It's good to experience what you’re feeling and then let it go; that helps me to move on to what's next. It's not a bad thing to feel down. You experience that feeling and then move on!

What is one piece of advice that you would give a young woman to navigate today's ever-changing world?

Here's some advice I'd share with all the beauties in the world… Always stay true to yourself. Come from a place of love and celebrate all your small accomplishments, because they'll turn into big ones!
