Be Thankful this Thanksgiving
Hey there, beauties! Thanksgiving is upon us and we are so ready to be with family and friends and eat all the yummy food that comes with this fun holiday!
Today’s topic centers on this one simple question. How often do you pause to appreciate what you have in life? We know that between the hustle of to-do lists and work deadlines, sometimes it’s easy to block out the details of the day, forgetting that each and every day holds precious gifts. From the air we breathe to the friendships we hold close, there is always something to be thankful for.
We all must admit that as children, we often took things for granted. After all, we were young and we didn’t know what life could be like on the other side. Slowly, as we began to grow up, we developed our own personalities and beliefs. In turn, we began to appreciate life and just how great the simple things can be. As we see and experience both the positive and negative sides of the world around us, it is then and only then that we begin to realize all the things we are given are not just rights, yet privileges. It is our hope that throughout the entirety of this holiday season you stay mindful of this simple fact; when you’re deeply grateful for everything in your life, you’re a much more joyful person. We realize that life is difficult and we all struggle, especially in today’s society. Often it is much easier to focus on what we don’t have rather than on what we do.
Slick Chicks truly believes the best way to remedy this is to walk through the day literally counting your blessings. With this in mind we decided to make a list of simple, but oh so important things that we all should be thankful for on a daily basis. Check it out below and tell us in the comment section what you are thankful for this holiday season!
YOUR HOME
A home should be a sanctuary, a safe place to rejuvenate, rest, and recover. Be deeply grateful you have a roof over your head and a place to come home to each day.
YOUR LOVED ONES
It’s so easy to take family and friends for granted. But pause and let it sink in. You have people to love, who also love you. What a gift! Those relationships are everything. Take some time to say thank you.
THE SUN ON YOUR SKIN
When you walk out the door and the sun hits your face, pause and say thank you. The sun makes life itself possible.
YOUR BED
Is there anything better than your own bed? Enough said.
FREEDOM
So many people around the world struggle to be free in one way or another. Never take your freedom for granted.
THE GOODNESS IN THE WORLD
It’s easy to focus on the bad news, but there’s so much goodness, heroic people, wonderful happenings, and beauty in the world. It’s all around if you just take time to look.
GREAT NEIGHBORS
There’s nothing like living beside people who are decent and kind, who look out for you and smile and wave when they see you. If you’ve got them nearby, appreciate them.
YOUR HEALTH
Realize what an incredible gift it is. Don’t wait, treasure it now.
GOOD FOOD
The delicious meal on your table, your favorite snack, a holiday feast... whatever you’re eating today, give thanks.
YOUR FAITH
Faith is the most precious of gifts. It brings hope, consolation, and grace into our lives.
YOUR LIFE THUS FAR
Everything that has happened in your life leading up to this moment — the good, the bad, the mistakes, the triumphs, have made you who you are today. Be glad for it all because who you are is a gift to the world.
Ok, it’s time for me to come clean and admit that I had some method to my madness when writing this blog; it wasn’t just because we are soon going to be celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. Sadly, we all know it often takes tragedy to wake us up; it forces us to reevaluate our lives and appreciate what we have. The reason for this is that when tragedy strikes, everything becomes instantaneously prioritized. You realize what matters most and what you care about and anything that is not essential is ignored.
