A Conversation with Lipstick Angels' Founder Renata Helfman
Lipstick Angels is a nonprofit organization that provides impactful clean-beauty and wellness services to those undergoing cancer treatments. Through human connection and self-care education, Lipstick Angels is helping to lift the self-esteem and confidence of their patients.
In order to go more in-depth with Lipstick Angels, we wanted to get to know their organization directly from the source, their founder Renata Helfman. Below is Renata's personal take on Lipstick Angels' beginnings, connection-centered mission, and what she hopes their patients gain from their services:
What pushed you to start Lipstick Angels?
I started Lipstick Angels because I saw a huge hole in the care for cancer patients.
According to the official Lipstick Angels website, the mission of Lipstick Angels is “to strengthen the dignity, hope, and self-esteem of individuals with cancer or other chronic illness.” In what ways have you seen individuals strengthened in these areas after completing a Lipstick Angels service?
Feeling cared for is so important. Our sessions are about wellness and education on healthy products and also taking care of your skin. As you can imagine, learning how to do your makeup is a game-changer, especially when you have lost your hair and or your brows.
What inspires you to stay motivated on the hard days?
The testimonials we get from our patients everyday send my heart soaring in gratitude.
The practice of connection seems to be very important to the services Lipstick Angels offers. Why do you think connection is such a vital component of the Lipstick Angels organization?
Having someone there for you who understands what you are going through is vital. We are not only a teacher but a friend to our patients.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused so many organizations to shift their ways of practice. Can you give us a little insight into how Lipstick Angels adapted during lockdown to best serve cancer and chronic illness patients?
We were fortunate enough to use the time to build out a virtual platform where we can connect with our patients now on Zoom. It is so fantastic!
What do you hope for Lipstick Angels in the years to come?
Well, I hope we find a cure for cancer xo until then I hope we can support as many people as possible.
