Writer, Martin Powell once said, “To satisfy a want or a need, you must first go for it.” That is just what Helya did on Sunday, June 25, 2017, when she was given the opportunity to appear and showcase Slick Chicks on the new ABC show FUNDERDOME; hosted by the one and only... Mr. Steve Harvey! How totally AWESOME is that?! Pretty darn awesome if you ask me! Recently, I asked Helya a few questions about her experience on the show and this is what she had to say...I have to tell you I’m a bit jealous!

What are a couple of important things you took away from your experience on the FUNDERDOME?

“We always hear “practice makes perfect”. So I knew I had to over prepare and expect the unexpected. I spent a tremendous amount of time and energy preparing for my appearance on the show. I wanted to make sure I had it all down before appearing in front of a live studio audience. The show was great practice for pitching my product and feeling confident about what I created. As long as I was genuine and kept the momentum going then I felt I could really engage with people at home and create an emotional connection. The entire week leading up to the show’s taping was nerve-wracking. The one thing that helped me keep my cool was knowing I was pitching my passion to people, regardless of how skeptical and critical they would be, I was going to put myself out there. While I was feeling extremely nervous, it was important for me to keep a cool head during my pitch. The more you know your product and the more prepared you are, the more likely you'll be able to draw on what you know to offer answers to questions you expected and some you didn't expect.”

We all want to know… What was it like to meet and interact with Mr. Steve Harvey?

“My first impression was that he was so much taller than I expected! But he really is a genuine and larger than life personality. He lives for making people laugh and it was great getting to joke with him on stage. It was a day that I will never forget.”

How does it feel to know Slick Chicks as a brand is reaching so many people?

“I feel such a great sense of pride when I talk about Slick Chicks. It’s like my baby! All I want is to help women confident regardless of their situation. Something as basic as underwear can really impact a woman’s everyday life. So if I can make a positive difference with something we take for granted every day, then I’ve achieved the definition of success in my eyes”.

What are your feelings on the final outcome of the show?

“Overall, I felt really positive about the show. I was able to connect with millions of people at home. Not to mention, receiving hundreds of emails once the show aired from people expressing how much they need a product like this. I couldn’t believe how supportive complete strangers were of me. It was bittersweet not walking away with the full amount, but like I said on the show, “some money is better than no money”.

What is the next step for Slick Chicks?

“The current landscape of the undergarment industry is really exciting right now. And to be part of an innovative brand that can really impact a woman’s life is so rewarding. My goal is to continue to refine our products and create more ways to bridge the gap between fashion and function. As we expand, we hope to develop products for men as well. We have already started to develop a "sister" line of products geared towards the medical market where there is a huge void. Right now the only options for adaptable undergarments are diapers and incontinence that are made out of cotton, polyester, and VELCRO® Brand fasteners. I can’t imagine how anyone can feel confident or dignified when they’re wearing something designed decades ago.”

Gals, you can probably tell just by simply reading her answers that Helya had a great time on the show. Ultimately, she achieved a dream. Just as she said above, it was a day she will never forget! Yes, it's true she didn't walk away with all the money that she could have, but once again as she said, some money ($6,500 to be exact) is better than no money. The response from YOU the public has been nothing short of phenomenal! You guys are great! You are a huge part of why Slick Chicks is so successful! 

The entire team here at Slick Chicks is so very proud of Helya. Heck, even Steve Harvey “loves these drawers!” What’s so crazy is that just a few short years ago this was a dream for Helya and in what seems like the blink of an eye to all of us, to her really was and still is years of hard work and dedication coming to fruition. I know for her it truly is a labor of love and she has come so far. Congratulations girl, you deserve it! To be honest, I am so excited and honored to be a part of such an amazing young company. I look forward to what the future holds for both this innovative "one of a kind" brand and for Helya as well, who as you can tell is a very accomplished young woman on the fast track to much success. Watch out world! Her future's so bright I just know we’re all going to have to wear shades!

On a side note, even though I’m writing this blog, it still blows my mind that the skivvies we take so much pride in here at Slick Chicks were actually on the "boobtube!" What really inspires me though is how very passionate Helya is about staying true to the Slick Chicks mission, which is simply this, “To help women feel empowered and confident regardless of their physical challenges". This reminds me of something a very close friend once told me and that I will carry with me always. She said, "Shannon, life is not always easy but as you know so well if you don't give up, dreams do come true”. Our outstanding boss babe is using her unique brand to spread that exact message daily and show all women that anything is possible if you just believe! So to all our Slick Chicks out there, I say channel your inner Helya and say a big hell-yeah to all your dreams!
