Wings for Life: Running for Those Who Can't

Wings for Life: Running for Those Who Can't

Hey there beauties! We hope you are feeling exceptionally empowered today! We here at Slick Chicks are super excited to highlight the Wings for Life Foundation and more specifically the Wings for Life World Run that was held on May 6th, 2018 in Sunrise, Florida. The Wings for Life World Run is an event unlike any other; perfect for everyone, of every ability, because you set your own goals and you don’t head toward a distant finish line. Instead, the finish line crosses with you. A half hour after the race starts, a moving finish line, the “Catcher Car,” chases runners along the course, gradually getting faster until each one is caught. In other words, everyone is a champion, raising funds and supporting spinal cord injury research.

This unique running competition has been held annually since the first weekend in May 2014, and it continues to grow by leaps and bounds with each year that passes. In fact, this one of a kind event has grown so much that it is now held in 12 physical locations around the world and is simultaneously broadcast live on Red Bull TV. For those that can’t make it out to a physical location, anyone can create an Organized Selfie App Run in their hometown and get their community involved in running for those who can’t. That has had such a great impact on the World Run, occurring in over 150 locations all over the world in 2018.

The nonprofit Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation is a driving force behind the mission. The two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner and the founder of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, had a need. In 2003, Kinigadner's son Hannes had a tragic accident, which left him tetraplegic. After years of working with the best scientists and physicians, the men were sorely disappointed to find that spinal cord research underfunded. From that point on the pair realized that this had to change and decided to merge passion and positivity together in hopes of one day finding a cure for all those affected by spinal cord injury (paralysis).

Every year, vital research and life changing clinical trials are funded through the money raised at this one-of-a-kind global race. This race is unlike any other fundraising event. Not only does it empower the participants to "Run for Those Who Can't". It also keeps the light shining on spinal cord injury research.

Slick Chicks is so proud to highlight and support the Wings for Life Foundation and so proud of our ambassador Jessika Kattah for her success in this year’s race as a participant and longtime ambassador for this groundbreaking foundation.

Thank you Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation for making strides for Spinal Cord Injury. We salute you!
